It’s that time of year when we bake up a storm, cookie swap like crazy and make gift baskets for all of our friends and families. This year I tried out a new dessert recipe and it happens to make the perfect holiday party treat OR that something special for friends or colleagues.

 Sweet & Salty Christmas Treat

Pretzels and chocolate — is there a better combination? There really aren’t many things better than great chocolate and Dove totally has you covered. Click to sweeten the holidays with Silky Smooth Dove Chocolate.

Reindeer Antlers Treat

Pair this treat with a small glass of milk and you have the perfect surprise for that after school snack (that is if you don’t eat them before the kids get home!).

Reindeer Antlers

Ingredients:

1 3/4 cups DOVE® Chocolate

3/4 cup M&M’S® Brand MINIS®

1 bag pretzel sticks, broken into various sized pieces

Reynolds® Parchment Paper

To Make:

1. Remove 3/4 cup red and green M&M’S® Brand MINIS® and set aside for decoration.

2. Line a baking sheet with Reynolds® Parchment Paper.

3. Melt the DOVE® Chocolate in a bowl set over a saucepan of boiling water. Stir the mixture as it melts. When mixture is shiny and smooth, turn off the heat.

4. Once all the chocolate is melted, dip the pretzel pieces one at a time and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet into an antler shape. Place the M&M’S® Brand MINIS® on each antler as it is finished.

5. Repeat this same process until all the antlers are finished.

6. Let the chocolate cool completely and get firm. You can refrigerate to firm the chocolate more quickly.

7. Once firm, remove them from the Reynolds® Parchment Paper.

8. If desired, wrap each one in a sheet of cellophane, tied with a ribbon or simply put them on a cookie plate.

Tip: Add red M&M’S® Brand MINIS® to form the red nose.

Create a Cozy Christmas Breakfast with Pier 1 Imports

There is something so magical about Christmas morning that over the years, it has become my favorite time to entertain. Christmas breakfast at my home has two requirements: expect it to be cozy and come in your pajamas. I love waking up early and setting a cozy breakfast table and this year I’ve turned to Pier 1 Imports to help me master that Christmas-cozy look!

I picked up a few finds and quickly set a table that adults and kids will eagerly gather around. I used these faux pine cone branches as a table runner (which can double as mantle decor!) and set 4 tan linen placemats as a base.

Next I picked up simple dishes from Pier 1 Imports — red plates and white bowls. Also, coordinating red mugs will perfectly hold coffee and hot cocoa on Christmas morning! Inside each bowl, a simple gift tag that serves as a place card.

And to tie it all together?  Christmas plaid napkins which bring home that cozy feel (don’t you think?).

In midst of all the chaos (aka children squealing with joy) Christmas morning can bring, I challenge you to make a special moment of Christmas cheer. Here are a couple Hostess Tips to keeping things simple:

-Set your breakfast table the night before. That way you won’t miss out on any magical moments in the morning!

-Serve simple food. Present store bought donuts or muffins in a thoughtful way (like the cake stand above) and set out bowls of fruit in the center of the table.

-For heartier breakfasts, prepare rolls and  casseroles the night before. Then in the morning you can simply pop them in the oven!

Do you have any Christmas morning traditions? I’d love to hear them!

If it’s interesting, if it’s impressive, if it’s colorful and cute and one-of-a-kind—then odds are it’s probably from Pier 1 Imports®. After all, Pier 1 has been the place for unique finds for over 40 years. Our buyers travel the world’s major capitals and small villages hunting for the kinds of treasures you can’t find just anywhere—fresh and fragrant candles, exotic wicker, hand-painted dinnerware, gorgeous textiles and thoughtful hand crafted gifts. Find what speaks to you at Pier 1 Imports®.

A Pretty Packaging Party

Feeling the holiday stress? Wish you had more time? How about carving out a little girl time and getting some of that to-do list accomplished?  My simple tip to sneaking in time with your best friend, mom, sis and neighbors? How about hosting a simple, Pretty Packaging Party?

The plan: set up a gift wrapping station, toss out some supplies and simple snacks, and invite the girls over for chatting and wrapping!

gift wrapping party

Confine your packaging party supplies to one room in your house — a dining room table or an otherwise, “out of the way” spot where you gals can get busy wrapping and catching up.

You’ll want to have plenty of supplies on hand (you can even ask each guest to bring something like tags, tissue, or ribbons to make it easier).

Boxes (I prefer these craft brown ones from thinkgarnish.com), plenty of ribbons of different widths, and festive tags are all a must. Don’t forget the tissue paper, tape, scissors and pens too!

cool packaging

Add those thoughtful touches to your gifts with these little homemade paper flowers. I made all sizes using cupcake liners and coffee filters! Layer, scrunch, and secure the flower together using a brad. Hostess Tip: if you’ll have kids in tow this is a fun craft that will keep their little hands busy!

You won’t want to forget some drinks and snacks — but keep it super simple. You’re getting together to get gifts wrapped and sneak in some quality girl time — no working away in the kitchen! Serve water or lemonade in glass jars with cute straws. Serve “packaging peanuts” and candy in these clever clear plastic tubes (so handy).

This entire Pretty Packaging Party idea can be pulled together in a whim — it’s super simple. So, go ahead — call up your girlfriends and invite them over for some wrapping and chatting. After all — good things do come in pretty packages.

Thoughts :: Need Thanksgiving Ideas? Me too.

thanksgiving ideas - table

If you haven’t seen this AMAZING Thanksgiving tablescape from Chris from Celebrations At Home — you must. Check out her feature over on Daily Grommet’s blog today (she’s got some great styling tips and Thanksgiving ideas).

It’s right around the corner — Thanksgiving. Actually, it’s in less than a week. What have I done to prepare you ask? Nothing. Nope, nada. The good thing about sticking to simple entertaining and hostessing ideas is that (when needed) you can pull it all together last minute (yep, literally).

I thought I’d keep it real and share with you all that I am lagging in my planning, but that I’m okay with that. I’ll turn to some of my favorite past ideas like these:

And I’ll throw in some new Thanksgiving ideas like the ones Chris shared here. How about you? Are all your T’s crossed and I’s dotted? How is your Thanksgiving planning coming together?

If you could use a little help pulling your thoughts and ideas together, join me and several other entertaining, design, food, and craft bloggers on Twitter Monday night the @DailyGrommet #HolidayHelp chat. More details here.

Hope to share (and learn) with you there!

DIY 4th of July Decor

Embarrassingly enough, I have been so busy that I hadn’t even thought of details for our intimate Fourth of July barbecue (hence the last minute patriotic dessert ideas). So today, I decided to look around the house for some inspiration and boy did I find it — RIBBON! I have about 50 yards of American flag print ribbon lying around and decided to put it to good use today.

This is a simple 4th of July place setting. I just used to clear glass plates and layered strips of coordinating ribbon inbetween them. Paired with a navy blue linen napkin — simple!

I used strips of ribbon to make these DIY ribbon cupcake toppers. These took maybe 5 minutes and I just used ribbon I had on hand. Check out these DIY instructions for more detail on how-to make these.

I even incorporated the ribbon decor outside since that will be where we are cooking and hanging out. About 6 strips of red, white and blue ribbon make up this decoration. I hung it from a tree and it looks really nice blowing in the wind.

I hope I have inspired you to look around your home and revisit supplies you have on hand when thinking of decorating. Remember, your party can look thoughtful … even if you just do a few simple touches.

Leaf Themed Thanksgiving Decor

There are several ways to decorate for Thanksgiving, but today I’m inspired by fall leaves. Really, what says Fall time better than leaves?

Set the tone for your leaf-inspired Thanksgiving with these Fall Tree invitations. Incorporate fall leaves into your Thanksgiving table decor with these lovely place card holders. I couldn’t decide if I likes the classic maple leaf place card holder or the fall leaf tea light holder better, which would make a great favor as well. You can use place card holders {like these great leaf ones from Favors In The City} as place card holders, to identify food on a buffet or dessert table, and also to give away as favors.

I am also in love with this leaf bowl which would make such a statement on your Thanksgiving table. What a bread basket this would make!

Since Thanksgiving is all about, well…giving thanks, be sure to send your guests home with a little token of your appreciation. I recently received these leaf shaped scalloped ornaments from Prismera Design- and wow, what a great favor idea! What I love is the idea of writing a little personal note to your guests right on the ornament itself. They can use this as a tree decoration or even as a bookmark all year long.

You can also send guests home with small treat boxes {I like these woven green ones} filled with candy or mints. Oh- and don’t forget a simple hand written thank you note to show guests you appreciated their presence. Cardstore has a lovely green thank you note I think would be perfect to send. Plus, the green design will carry you through to Christmas time, versatile!
