Bunco Party Theme

When a friend of mine {Mary Kay} asked if I had any ideas for her next Bunco Party, I began brainstorming. After all, I am always looking for a reason to get a crowd together and have some fun! I started thinking what a great idea it is to host a Bunco Party: 12 close gal friends, a fun game, good food, and of course a signature cocktail!

If you are not familiar the game of Bunco, check out the official rules here and learn more about this game. You don’t need much to get your Bunco party rolling… I suggest keeping with the black, red, and white color scheme inspired by the dice {the most essential part of the game}.

For Mary Kay’s Bunco party, she was looking to serve her gal friends delicious, simple, and healthy appetizers. I put my thinking cap on and suggested she make these appetizers. She was thrilled with the healthy choices that were a breeze to make and also simple to serve. After all- no time for a fancy sit down meal when you are eager to play Bunco!

Of course what party would be complete without a signature cocktail? How about creating your own “Bunco-Tini!” Just serve up a red colored Martini {whatever you like best} and call it your own! I am currently loving:

1 oz Frisยฎ apple vodka
2 oz apple juice
1 tsp grenadine syrup

Fun Valentine’s Day Table Top Decor

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and now is a great time to plan some holiday decor. In my search to find creative Valentine table top decor, I discovered Crossroads Cottage and their fabulous tablescapes. You will love all of their ideas and inspiring photos showing off their many table top ideas. My eyes were drawn to the Valentines designs of course, and I am dying to share them with you!

I love creating Valentine’s Day decor that is beyond the usual heart motif. You can play with fun and flirty patterns and colors when you are decorating. Above are Pinwhirls created out of romantic patterned paper with yummy names such as pink raspberry and candy stripes.

I love taken one item and using it several different ways when creating party decor. Here, you can see how these fabulous pinwhirls are used to pull the table top together.

  • Gathered in a vase for a whimsical centerpiece
  • Placed at each individual place setting doubling as name cards
  • Inserted into a cupcake for a fun and personal touch.

What a simple way to pull of some unique party decor! Oh– and did I mention this would be a great idea for any party your having? Check out all of their pinwhirl designs!

Candy Party Themes

If you’re looking for inspiration for creative party themes, I’ve got a sweet idea for you! Whether it’s a birthday party or a “just because” get-together, check this out: it’s a candy party!

Candy Party

This theme is perfect for a slumber party or regular birthday party too! Just gather friends and get ready for some sweet, sugary, fun! What more could a kid want… right?

Here is one of my favorite candy-themed invites:

candy party invitations

You can personalize this invite for your kiddo’s birthday or slumber party and set the tone for your sweet event! See your options for these candy themed invitations.

Rather than your traditional birthday cake, set up a colorful candy buffet. Gather old favorites and new treats and display them in glass bowls and jars. Anything really goes, just be creative! Use a glass vase to hold fun lollipops and use punch ladles as make-shift candy scoops.

Candy Buffet

You can purchase bulk candy at your favorite sweet shop, or even online (I use candywarehouse.com). Let your party guests scoop up some sweet treats rather than the serving cake and ice cream. Just don’t forget to light the candles if this is a birthday party! You can get creative and stick them into gumdrop candies and set them in the middle of the candy buffet table.

When guests are about to leave, don’t send them home without a cute candy favor! You can always provide small favor boxes or bags and let them scoop up their own sweet treats. Or, send them with one of these cute mini gumball machines. Hostess tip: Make a personalized tag out of card stock and attach with ribbon to each gumball machine. Print each guests’ name or a simple “Thank You For Coming” message. I found all of these yummy favors at Beau Coup, check them out!

Candy favors

If your party is going to be a Sweet Slumber {party}, order a couple of these fun candy pillows to use as party decor! They will be a huge hit and make for one sweet pillow fight!

Other Party Ideas:

  • Set out board games like Candy Land for the guests to play (even if they are older…they’ll still have fun)!
  • Fill jars with gumballs/jelly beans/ M&Ms and have them guess the amount for a prize.
  • Play charades having all the cards be names of candy bars and candy types
  • Have a scavenger hunt and have them collect different types of candy

DIY Birthday Decor

The next time you find yourself planning a child’s birthday party, try one of these DIY decor ideas before you hit the store for those old crepe streamers.

Party Napkins

Instead of buying printed party napkins, try this DIY party idea:

  • Purchase solid colored party napkins to match your party decor.
  • Choose a shape to cut out that matches your party theme
  • Make a template of your shape using card stock.
  • Trace template onto napkin, then cut around design (cut through 3-4 napkins at once to save time).

Birthday Banner

Make your own birthday banner to match any birthday theme and/or color. You can really get creative with this idea since the fonts, letters, and colors are completely up to you.

  • Choose a piece of colored ribbon to hang your banner on (or any type of string or twine will work).
  • Print individual letters out from your computer (one letter per sheet) increasing font size to fill up page.
  • Repeat above until your completed message is printed
  • Attach pages to ribbon by folding over top and securing with tape. Then simply hang!

Tip: Alternate between different fonts and colors when printing out your message for a whimsical effect like shown above.

Simple Entertaining: Overnight Guests

During the holiday season, many of us find ourselves entertaining guests overnight. Whether it be relatives who have traveled in order to stay with you, or a friend passing through looking for a place simply to rest their head, here are a few simple tips that can help you make their stay more comfortable.

  • One easy thing you can do that will have your guests wanting to return is to make their sleep more comfortable. You may not have the same budget as a luxury hotel, but investing in a couple extra pillows and a really comfortable blanket will leave guests in a sweet slumber. By leaving an extra blanket in their room, your guests can fell just as warm and snugly as they desire.
  • If you are one of those households that have 3 remotes just to turn on the TV, Satellite, Tivo, etc. your guests will most likely be completely lost and intimated to turn anything on. If your guests’ room has a TV, confusing alarm clock, or other complicated electronics…putting together a simple electronics “manual” would be very thoughtful. You can do as little as type a few instruction up and leave it in their room or as much as putting together a small “how-to” binder (like pictured here). This tip is also good for babysitters and house sitters!
  • If your guests will be staying a long period of time, putting together a quick schedule might be helpful. Let them know when you are busy working (and/or attending other obligations) and when you will be home. This will enable them to feel comfortable making their own plans. You can even put together a little “suggestion” list of things for them to do or places to visit if they are not familiar with your area.
  • Make a guests truly feel welcomed by putting together a small care kit for them. Include some sample sized toiletries, extra tooth brush, aspirin, and anything you know they love. For example, a special tea they drink or their favorite coffee creamer for the mornings.

These are just a few simple and thoughtful ideas to help you be a fabulous hostess to your overnight guests. Making them feel comfortable is key…. and of course enjoy their company!

Simple Centerpieces Make a Bold Statement!

If you are still looking for some Table Top inspiration for your Thanksgiving feast, check out how simple it can be! You can turn ordinary pumpkins into simple and modern table top decor that will surely impress.

Your table centerpieces can be as simple as gathering a few pumpkins. Group them together to make a bold statement. You can also display them on cake stands to give the arrangement height (which also gives you more table room for your food). For a modern statement, spray paint your entire pumpkin white, stem and all. The folks from Dwell Studio point out that this modern idea won’t draw away from the colors of your beautiful dinner! {We love that!} Or mix it up and create more of an interest like the above table top from domino Magazine. And if the real-deal isn’t for you, we are also loving these Pumpkin Candles from Pottery Barn.

Hostess Tip: Don’t stress, when you make things simple, you tend produce fabulous results!
