Valentine’s Day Cookie Pops

Looking for something cute and sweet to whip for your little Valentine or to serve at your Valentine’s Day party? We’ve shared several Valentine’s Day cupcakes (and even an adult only version)  but today we’re loving these super simple cookie pops!

cookie pops

Aren’t they cute?!

Recently, the nice folks at Wrigley Candy Co. sent me a huge box of sweet surprises. Think… all the good stuff — Skittles, Starburst, Lifesavers, + gum galore! Besides snacking like crazy (someone please come take this candy away from me) I’ve been playing with fun new recipes like this one.

What I used:

-Mini sugar cookies (these are store bought even, see — simple!)

-White frosting

-Red & Pink Skittles

-White lollipop sticks

*note – you may have to eat all other colors of Skittles in order to isolate the red & pink. It’s okay, just go ahead and eat them all.

What I did:

-Used frosting to attach to cookies together, placing the stick in the middle (like a sandwich)

-Put more frosting on one top of the cookie

-Placed the Skittles on the frosting for the decoration

DONE!

I placed my completed cookie pops in this perfectly sizes Blumebox and covered the pop insert with more Skittles.

What do you think, could cookie pops be the next cake pop? I’m a much bigger cookie fan, so I’d be okay with that ;).

I received candy from Wrigley to complete this post. However, all thoughts & opinions are my own.

Simple Halloween Ideas {Peep Smores}

This year, I am all about finding simple Halloween ideas (this year just seems to be moving so much faster than normal and I can’t keep up!). I’ve been finding great DIY decor ideas and great Halloween treats over on Pinterest like these smores made with peeps! I decided these were the perfect {simple} treats to make for all of the neighborhood kids so I whipped them up last night. Here are the stars of the show:

Simple Halloween Ideas

-1 graham cracker (broken in half)

-2 mini Hershey’s

-1 ghost peep (they have pumpkin peeps too if you’d rather mix it up)

Place in a bag …

And there you have Halloween peep smores — such a simple treat! I tied the bag up with ribbon and a cute Halloween tag. The ones above are free printables from Anders Ruff Custom Designs. You can download yours too here.

What simple Halloween ideas have you found lately? I’d love to hear about them!

Halloween snack mix + printable

I whipped up this Halloween snack mix the other night in about 10 minutes (made a big ole’ batch and stored it in a big ole’ jar!). My secret recipe  at the end of the post.   ;)

Halloween snack mix

I made a big batch of this and used for different things:

-sent with kiddo on a recent amusment park trip

-made gift jars for friends

-made a cute after school treat for my girls

You all liked the St. Patrick’s Day treat I shared, so I thought I’d share this one too — nothing fancy, just a simple surprise waiting for them after school.

A little festive snack — you know to get in the Halloween spirit.

 Halloween trail mix

Add some milk (it does a body good) + a cute paper straw = SIMPLE.

Here’s the image I created if you want to use it. Just right click + save. Then open in a word doc and print.

Note: I don’t do exact measurments — more like a handul of this, a handful of that. So just increase what you love and leave out what you don’t!

Combine:

-Chex Mix cereal (I used honey flavor)

-Chocolate Cheerios

-Roasted Peanuts

-Butter Popcorn (make sure to toss a few handfuls in your mouth for good measure)

-Reeses Pieces (and then toss some of these in your mouth with the popcorn – trust me!)

-Fall colored M&M’s

-Candy Corn and Candy Corn pumpkins

That’s it! Mix it all up and enjoy!

{Simple} Cake Decorating Ideas

Want to roll your sleeves up and get elbow-deep in icing? Okay, maybe you’re not that intense, but if you are looking for some simple cake decorating ideas, I think you’ll enjoy these photos.

On a side note, I know first hand what it’s like to be elbow-deep in icing. Many moons ago I spent  4 years as a cake decorator and we used to mix up our butter cream in a giant industry grade mixer and then fill up trash can-sized containers of this sweet stuff. Man, that was some messy (yet sweet) work. I think I sort of miss it.

Oh well, here are some cake decorating ideas that will require A LOT less icing!

Spruce up the inside of your cake by making colorful layers that will be revealed once the cake is cut.

cake bunting

Do a basic white icing and then top the cake with a simple DIY bunting (you can use paper, ribbon or mini poms).

donut holes on cake

Better yet? Top the cake with cake balls or mini donut holes rolled in sprinkles (I love this look)!

I hope these ideas inspire you to whip up some icing! Speaking of icing, I’m on the hunt for a go-to  recipe. Do you have a favorite? Share in the comments or on our Facebook page — I’d love to try it!

Reinventing the cupcake topper

I love when I stumble upon talented people, doing creative things that I hadn’t known about before. Recently, I was on the hunt for a creative way to dress up cupcakes that didn’t include a paper cupcake topper (nothing against them, I am just a bit bored with the look), when I discovered Edible Details and their fondant cupcake toppers – BINGO! I loved how  Brittany has taken the matching theme look of the paper cupcake topped yet created something unique, gorgeous, and EDIBLE! Take a look:

See what I mean? They are darling! What a great way to present a cupcake, don’t you think?

Mason jar recipes

The mason jar trend is nothing new, but it still seems to be going strong (and in my book still adorable!). From sweets to snacks, drinks to meals — I love all mason jar recipes. Here are a few I’ve spotted that I can’t wait to try.

mason jar recipes

Neapolitan cake, rainbow cake (would be darling for birthday or St. Patrick’s Day), individual pies (the flags are a cute bonus!).

mason jar recipes

Here are some of my favorite and unique mason jar recipes that go beyond cakes and pies:

Smore pudding, ice cream (hello brilliant!), and chili topped with cornbread (this has to be my all-time favorite!).

Have you baked, cooked, or served with mason jars? What are your favorite mason jar recipes? Do tell!
