It seems that the more people you know, the more often you are buying cards and presents. For each friend or family member we have, we add a wide selection of special gift-giving occasions such as Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, getting married, having a baby, going to college, or moving into a new home. Some holidays like baby showers are designed for the gift giver to offer practical gifts that can be used for that purpose. Other special occasions like weddings make it easy for us to buy practical gifts with registries that tell us exactly what our friends would like the most. Then there are those “unusual special occasions” that we never know what to buy. You know which ones I am talking about, the ones that you usually end up giving the “old flower” standby. My latest quandary is what to give someone who is moving. (other then flowers!)
Moving to college?
Moving because they are getting married?
Moving because they bought a new house?
Moving because they are having another child?
A realtor giving a gift to a person who bought from them?
So that led me on a search to find a very thoughtful yet practical present to give to someone who was moving. My idea stemmed from being practical. I though, hmmm what do they need? After all, we give baby clothes to people having a baby (because they need them), so why not give moving boxes to people who are moving, right? That was my “aha” moment. Moving boxes…practical……thoughtful….and simple.
Why not give moving boxes and moving supplies to someone who is moving? Not particularly impressive, but oh so needed and appreciated. I came across a fabulous web site that offers moving boxes and moving supplies in a “moving kit.” You click on the size of home you have and they recommend the right number of moving boxes and supplies with FREE SHIPPING. Yes, free- very cool if I say so myself. For example, for only $88, you can buy all the moving boxes and moving supplies a person needs to move a 2 bedroom home or apartment. All of the sizes are there, if you need a larger size or a smaller one. Then, have them shipped right to the recipient’s door.Thoughtful and simple. I know if I was moving, I would totally appreciate this gift.

Labor Day entertaining is usually an end-of-summer celebration. With warmer weather on it’s way out and cooler days ahead, Labor Day is known as a seasonal transition marker. If you are entertaining this Labor Day, decorate your party space with non traditional color: w h i t e. White is a “fresh and clean” party theme- a great alternative to the traditional red, white, and blue color spread used for Labor day.
Gather white items from around your house to use as party decor. No need to go out and buy all new stuff.
Decor ideas: White paper lanterns, white candles, white plates and napkins, and white linens. Gather bunches of white flowers and display on your tabletops.
Some white flowers are: Lilies, Carnations, Roses, Daisies, Orchids, Hydrangeas and Gardenias
I also love the idea of making lounge space outdoors. You can group patio furniture together or even drag a daybed or small love seat outdoors for your party. To provide a dramatic touch, hang white linens around your seating area. This is a simple way to make a statement with your decor.
Anyone with a sweet tooth knows that a cookie is just not a cookie. Some are softer, some you crave more, some are perfect warmed, and well….some are just adorable! These cookies definitely fall into the “adorable” category. The Flour Pot has turned a delectable cookie into the perfect gift idea. Check out some of my favorite designs:
And perhaps my favorite, cookies that help you celebrate your engagement! You can send these as a gift to a newly engaged couple OR better yet, send them to your future bridesmaids. The Flour Pot has came up with the most thoughtful way to ask that special gal in your life to be your bridesmaid, send her an adorable cookie in a box that asks, “Will you be my bridesmaid?” How thoughtful is that?! Take a look at their custom designed bridesmaid cookies.
Let’s be honest, wedding registries are usually chalked full of home furnishing and kitchen items that the bride is swooning over. Sure- the groom may have added a grill or gave his input on the color of the bathroom towels, however most often- wedding registries lack “guy stuff.” Well, not any longer- grooms everywhere can rejoice, your voice can be heard!
Check out this guy-geared site, The Man Registry. Grooms can now really get excited about creating a wedding registry, with gadgets and gizmos galore- this is the perfect place for a “groom only” registry or a place to get some awesome groomsmen gifts. Here are some of my favorite groomsmen gift ideas:
Any groomsmen would be happy to receive the above gifts. Not only are they cool and out of the ordinary, they are something that one can actually use (and enjoy) over and over.
1. Soft sided cooler. Hold up to a 12 pack and you can even get this monogrammed. 2. Poker set- now they can invite you over and get your game on! 3. Floating beer pong table…loving this! I think everyone has that one groomsmen who would love to receive this as a gift! 4. Jalapeno griller. Have a grill lovin’ groomsmen? This is perfect for stuffing and grilling jalapeno peppers. HOT!
