Party: Create a Chic Hawaiian Feel

If you are hosting a party soon {whether it be a birthday or just a get-together}, why not add some Hawaiian flare? Adding tropical touches can really set the mood of your party. Instead of throwing your typical Luau themed party {you know with those plastic leis} try adding just a few Hawaiian inspired touches. This will make your party feel more classy and authentic.

To serve your drinks or appetizers, set up a unique table/bar in a snap! Use a surfboard instead of a table! You can set it atop a small table (for support) or even use two TV trays to prop it up on.

Some simple party food ideas are shrimp skewers, grilled pineapple, and maybe coconut flavored desserts. If you are serving adult drinks, try this cocktail recipe:

{courtesy of Hostess With The Mostess}

Tidal Wave

1½ ounces Malibu (or other coconut-flavored rum)
1 ounce blue curacao
¾ ounces fresh lime juice
½ ounce amaretto
1 tablespoon coconut cream
1 teaspoon superfine sugar lime slice

As for decor, the key here is to keep it simple. No need for tall paper palm trees. You can pull off a Hawaiian feel without crepe paper fish and plastic leis. For table decor, try gathering a few colorful votive candles. Place them on top of random glass cake stands and place a few stemless orchids to add that paradise feel. You can also use items such as sea shells and sand dollars to make your theme come together.

Add simple touches throughout your event space. I love this idea of using a fresh tropical flower to serve as a napkin ring. You can even tie a single flower around items such as a glass pitcher, basket of silverware, or hand towel in the restroom.

In order to have a successful Hawaiian themed party, simple and thoughtful touches really are key. When I think of Hawaii, I think of a natural and easy going flare. If you plan your party with “natural” and “easy going” in mind– you will have stunning results that don’t require a lot of effort!

A Party for Your Little Monkey

Do you have a “little monkey?” Plan their next party in this modern monkey theme and let the Monkey business begin!

First step to your monkey party theme is to dress the part (well for the birthday boy or girl at least)! Mod Monkey Tee for the guest of honor, party hats and monkey masks for all the little monkey guests!

Of course, solid yellow and brown would be fitting, but how cute are these monkey paper goods?!

Have this monkey pinata hanging around for some fun party decor. Fill with banana flavored candy, yellow M&M’s, Lemon Heads, and yellow suckers! To keep guests occupied, play barrel of monkeys, monkey in the middle, or monkey see monkey do (just like Simon says).

Blend up banana smoothies or serve kids banana flavored milk. Have a tray of bananas, bowl of yellow candies, and dried banana chips out for guests to munch on.

Create this adorable Monkey cake as Martha Stewart did or for multiple monkeys, make these monkey cupcakes!

Send your guests home with some monkey memorabilia! Purchase these monkey favor bags  or make banana cookies to send home with guests. aYou can also check out this monkey party favor kit available at Martha Stewart Crafts.

For the Girls! Spa Party Theme

Looking for slumber party ideas? Just putting this fabulous kids’ spa party theme together has got me longing for a day at the spa! A spa party theme would be perfect for any girlie-girl’s birthday party theme ranging from age 7 to well, adult! What little lady (or grown woman for that matter) doesn’t love some good pampering?

slumber party ideas

Choose a group of girls to invite, keeping it to under 10 girls will make the spa treatments run a bit more smoothly. Decide if your spa party will be an overnight slumber party or a simple “day at the spa.”

spa party theme

Here are two darling invites:  ‘Painted Toes’ invite and  ‘Spa Girls’ invite. Or, if you want to make them yourself,  these spa mask invites from Martha Stewart are adorable too

. Ask girls to bring their favorite bath robe for a true “luxury” feel. When they arrive, have them put on their robes and welcome them to the spa.

A great party spa treat would be to get each girl a pair of spa slippers. They’ll love that they all match and the slippers will also serve as a fabulous party favor. Here’s a cute spa slippers kit that they can actually make. So it’s a bonus activity too!

Let the pampering begin with pedicures! Place chairs in a circle and grab some paint trays from you local home store to serve as water basins. Fill with warm water tossing in bath fizzies and a few rose petals for that extra touch. Consider recruiting Grandma, Auntie, or a friend to help you with your spa duties. Let each girl pick their polish color and get to work!

After the pedis, give each girl a facial scrub. I like this home facial scrub recipe which you can premake and store in small canning jars. You can slo try chocolate facial which I am sure the girls will be eager to lick off if it should drip!

Chocolate Facial Mask

1/3 Cup Cocoa Powder
3 Tablespoons Heavy Cream
2 teaspoons Cottage Cheese
¼ Cup Honey
3 teaspoons Oatmeal
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together using a small blender then smooth onto face. Relax for ten 10 minutes, then wash off with warm water. Enjoy baby soft skin!

spa party theme - cookies

Wouldn’t these make the cutest dessert? I spotted these face mask shaped cookies and thought they were perfect! You could even personalize them with the spa guests names! For beverages, serve up yummy fruit smoothies and for eats how about small sandwiches?

spa party favors

Make each girl a spa pampering toiletry bag that she can use during her spa visit and also take home as a party favor. Include mini sized items like a nail file, nail polish, lip gloss, and scented lotion.

Now you have your spa party inspiration– add your own details and enjoy a little girl time during a spa party!

Bunco Party Theme

When a friend of mine {Mary Kay} asked if I had any ideas for her next Bunco Party, I began brainstorming. After all, I am always looking for a reason to get a crowd together and have some fun! I started thinking what a great idea it is to host a Bunco Party: 12 close gal friends, a fun game, good food, and of course a signature cocktail!

If you are not familiar the game of Bunco, check out the official rules here and learn more about this game. You don’t need much to get your Bunco party rolling… I suggest keeping with the black, red, and white color scheme inspired by the dice {the most essential part of the game}.

For Mary Kay’s Bunco party, she was looking to serve her gal friends delicious, simple, and healthy appetizers. I put my thinking cap on and suggested she make these appetizers. She was thrilled with the healthy choices that were a breeze to make and also simple to serve. After all- no time for a fancy sit down meal when you are eager to play Bunco!

Of course what party would be complete without a signature cocktail? How about creating your own “Bunco-Tini!” Just serve up a red colored Martini {whatever you like best} and call it your own! I am currently loving:

Red Apple Martini

1 oz Fris® apple vodka
2 oz apple juice
1 tsp grenadine syrup

Candy Party Themes

If you’re looking for inspiration for creative party themes, I’ve got a sweet idea for you! Whether it’s a birthday party or a “just because” get-together, check this out: it’s a candy party!

Candy Party

This theme is perfect for a slumber party or regular birthday party too! Just gather friends and get ready for some sweet, sugary, fun! What more could a kid want… right?

Here is one of my favorite candy-themed invites:

candy party invitations

You can personalize this invite for your kiddo’s birthday or slumber party and set the tone for your sweet event! See your options for these candy themed invitations.

Rather than your traditional birthday cake, set up a colorful candy buffet. Gather old favorites and new treats and display them in glass bowls and jars. Anything really goes, just be creative! Use a glass vase to hold fun lollipops and use punch ladles as make-shift candy scoops.

Candy Buffet

You can purchase bulk candy at your favorite sweet shop, or even online (I use candywarehouse.com). Let your party guests scoop up some sweet treats rather than the serving cake and ice cream. Just don’t forget to light the candles if this is a birthday party! You can get creative and stick them into gumdrop candies and set them in the middle of the candy buffet table.

When guests are about to leave, don’t send them home without a cute candy favor! You can always provide small favor boxes or bags and let them scoop up their own sweet treats. Or, send them with one of these cute mini gumball machines. Hostess tip: Make a personalized tag out of card stock and attach with ribbon to each gumball machine. Print each guests’ name or a simple “Thank You For Coming” message. I found all of these yummy favors at Beau Coup, check them out!

Candy favors

If your party is going to be a Sweet Slumber {party}, order a couple of these fun candy pillows to use as party decor! They will be a huge hit and make for one sweet pillow fight!

Other Party Ideas:

  • Set out board games like Candy Land for the guests to play (even if they are older…they’ll still have fun)!
  • Fill jars with gumballs/jelly beans/ M&Ms and have them guess the amount for a prize.
  • Play charades having all the cards be names of candy bars and candy types
  • Have a scavenger hunt and have them collect different types of candy
