Party: Create a Chic Hawaiian Feel

If you are hosting a party soon {whether it be a birthday or just a get-together}, why not add some Hawaiian flare? Adding tropical touches can really set the mood of your party. Instead of throwing your typical Luau themed party {you know with those plastic leis} try adding just a few Hawaiian inspired touches. This will make your party feel more classy and authentic.

To serve your drinks or appetizers, set up a unique table/bar in a snap! Use a surfboard instead of a table! You can set it atop a small table (for support) or even use two TV trays to prop it up on.

Some simple party food ideas are shrimp skewers, grilled pineapple, and maybe coconut flavored desserts. If you are serving adult drinks, try this cocktail recipe:

Tidal Wave

1½ ounces Malibu (or other coconut-flavored rum)
1 ounce blue curacao
¾ ounces fresh lime juice
½ ounce amaretto
1 tablespoon coconut cream
1 teaspoon superfine sugar lime slice

As for decor, the key here is to keep it simple. No need for tall paper palm trees. You can pull off a Hawaiian feel without crepe paper fish and plastic leis. For table decor, try gathering a few colorful votive candles. Place them on top of random glass cake stands and place a few stemless orchids to add that paradise feel. You can also use items such as sea shells and sand dollars to make your theme come together.

Add simple touches throughout your event space. I love this idea of using a fresh tropical flower to serve as a napkin ring. You can even tie a single flower around items such as a glass pitcher, basket of silverware, or hand towel in the restroom.

In order to have a successful Hawaiian themed party, simple and thoughtful touches really are key. When I think of Hawaii, I think of a natural and easy going flare. If you plan your party with “natural” and “easy going” in mind– you will have stunning results that don’t require a lot of effort!
